Fries on the road

When you're eating on the road, it gives you a different feeling.  I was on an RV trip around the great lakes, and we got to eat out a lot.  It's different because you're not used to the places you go, and it feels different.  You have to get used to it, and be willing to try different things.  It's just french fries; even if they're different, it can be OK.  I recommend Culver's over McDonalds if you go fast food while on the road.

Heid's (Liverpool, NY)

My Dad and I went out to get a hot dog at Heid's one night (late) and we bought hot dogs and a large fry.  The fries were really, really good; they had lots of salt (which I like).  They were natural cut, with skins on the ends.  They were soooo delicious.  I didn't expect a little tin of fries to be a large fry.  If you like hot dogs and you like fries, definitely go to Heid's.

Captain Barker's (Superior, WI)

The food that I had at Captain Barker's I expected to be good; well, I was wrong.  My mom heard that it was the place to go, but she was wrong.  The fries - again - looked like they were baked.  I couldn't even bite into them they looked so bad.  I do not recommend this place.  They were batter dipped and store bought, and they weren't warm when we got them.  They only had a pinch of salt.  Try someplace else. 1/5.

Calumet, MI (Michigan House)

Michigan House (Calumet).  These fries weren't best in show either.  They kind of looked a little green when they arrived.  I asked myself, what are these?  They were natural cut, minimal seasoning (a little salt).  But when I bit into them, they tasted raw.  They may have been baked instead of fried like most fries.  I see no point in baking your fries.  Disappointing, especially when the chicken was pretty good.

Ikea (Mall of America) were OK.  They weren't my favorite or best in show.  They were natural cut, with skins. One thing I didn't like about them was that they were too soggy.  Who likes soggy french fries???  I don't.  I expected Ikea to have good food at cheap prices.  It turned out to be this:  they had no seasoning and no salt (kind of plain like their furniture). 2/5.

FRIES AT MEMORIAL UNION TERRACE

These fries were super-good.  They were double fried and batter dipped, with skins on the edge.  There's no other way to describe them but delicious.  They were crispy and hot, which made them even more tasty.  You can get them with dipping sauces, but I prefer none.  If it's a good fry, you don't need sauce.
